“In Partnership with GIZ. GCMHP Provides ‘Child Protection’ Training for 'Sports for Smile' Coaches”

In cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), Gaza Community Mental Health Programme has provided on Sunday, August 2, a training course, for 45 female and male sports coaches from the 4 clubs participating in Sports for Smile Project – phase III.

This training is the 3rd of its kind and is implemented over a 2 sessions, 5 hrs each.

During the opening session of the course – attended by Dr Tayseer Diab, Deputy General Director for Professional Affairs; Mr Qusay Abu Odei, Director Foreign Relations and Resource Development Department; Ms Enas Judeh, Head of the Training and Capacity Building Unit; and Mr Ahmed Al-Qafidi, project coordinator –   an overview of the activities and training topics was explained to the participants.

 

This course aims to provide the  participants with knowledge and skills about: the concept of the childhood, child protection, forms and types of child abuse and its indicators; gender-based violence and the eight child protection threats; child protection in international and Palestinian laws; Principles for working with children and managing child protection cases; risk levels, response mechanisms, referral, response points, and referral pathways.

The sports coaches are provided with these trainings in order to enhance their capacities in dealing with children and enable them to identify and support those who need help, or those who need professional intervention through referrals.
