GCMHP finalizes the Recreational Activities of the Counselling Units

Under the project of “School Counselling Programme and Recreational Activities for Traumatised Children in Gaza – Phase 7” funded by AL-Asfari Foundation and Welfare Association, GCMHP finalized the recreational activities, targeting four different areas in the Gaza Strip: Al Shaaf area- east of Gaza city , AL-Yarmouk area- west of Gaza city , Jabalia Refugees Camp-north of the Gaza Strip  and Rafah Refugees Camp- south of the Gaza Strip . The activities reached out around 800 children between the ages of 8-14 years, as for 200 children in each area, and were conducted in the course of 12 days.

The programme was implemented in partnership with four community based organizations at the targeted areas; Zakher Association to develop the capacity of Palestinian women (east of Gaza),  Ajyal Association for Charity & Development (west of Gaza),  Dar Elshabab Association for Culture and Development (Jabalia Camp) and Yaboos Charity Society (Rafah).

The activities aimed at providing psychosocial support for the children through different entertainment activities to promote cooperation, partnership and joy among the children. The activities also contribute in developing their intellectual skills, enhancing their abilities to take responsibility, building friendship bonds outside the frame of school and family, and increasing their ability to express their feelings.

The activities were implemented under the supervision of GCMGP’s professionals, and it included various entertainment games and performances such as role play, wishes tree, competitions, free drawing, murals using sea shells, murals using wax colors, recycling through using damaged materials, besides the warming-up activities.

It is worth mentioning that , the project aims at improving health and psychological conditions for the students who suffer from behavioral and mental health problems through counselling services to reach a healthy psychological environment at the schools.
