A Delegation from Trocaire-Ireland visits Gaza Community Mental Health Programme

A Delegation from Trocaire-Ireland recently visited Gaza Community Mental Health Programme (GCMHP) in which included Mr. Eoin Hamill, Programme Officer and Ms. Deirdre Campbell, Gender Based Violence Specialist. The delegation was received by Dr. Yasser Abu Jamei, Director General of GCMHP along with other GCMHP professionals working in the project of Enhancing the awareness and access to reliable mental health and counselling services for women and children in Gaza strip” which is funded by Trocaire and implemented by GCMHP.

At the outset of the meeting, Dr. Abu Jamei welcomed the delegation, appreciated their continuous support and highlighted  the activities and services provided by GCMHP for the Palestinian community.

Dr. Abu Jamei added a briefing about the difficult economic and political conditions that the Palestinian people in Gaza are experiencing, the impact of the prolonged imposed siege, the Israeli offensives and constant escalations on the Gaza Strip reflecting the severe psychological and social consequences of such conditions on people.

In addition, Ms. Lubna Beseiso, the Project Coordinator at GCMHP delivered a presentation about the activities and challenges facing Trocaire project underlying the main achievements.  The delegation raised some questions for the project’s professional team regarding the GCMHP’s recent interventions, especially in the field of violence against women and children. On their turn, the professionals responded to all their enquiries.   The visit also included a tour in Gaza Community Center and the delegation was introduced to the center’s different sections such as Telephone counseling, play therapy and EEG units.
