“Cognitive behavioural therapy & developing scientific research skills Training”

GCMHP Department of Training and Scientific Research has conducted a training course from the 22nd to 26th August, 2019 on the techniques and methodologies of applying Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in treating panic disorder and concomitant physical symptoms and other related disorders. The training, which has been provided by Dr Shaheen Ashraf Kagee, from the Stellenbosch University in South Africa also included tips and exercises on how to write scientific abstracts. On the last day of the training, the participants discussed recommendations on professional supervision.

Dr Kagee is due to make another visit in December to continue the other parts of the training. Until then, he will provide online supervision on a monthly basis. He also encouraged the participants to write their own theses, which he will review to reinforce their practical skills. This training comes as part of a series of capacity building trainings that the Programme has been providing since 2017 in order to keep its staff members at bar with the international professional standards.

At the end of the training, the participants were recognized for their effort and dedication. Dr Kagee was also recognized for providing this training, despite the challenges he faces every time he tries to cross in to Gaza.
